Can colors influence how you feel?

The behavior of a colour in nature is often correlated with its effect on humans. When we were children, blue skies and the color blue are always associated with a positive thing. The sky was blue and clear, so we could have fun outside with our friends. The weather is calmer and less stormy as we get older. Blue is a color that evokes images of tranquility and security.

Researchers say that colors do influence feelings. There is an entire field of research dedicated to the psychology of colors.

Psychology of Color 101

Why is color such an important influence in our lives? What impact could it have on our minds and bodies? Color perceptions can be very personal. However, some color effects are more universal.

Red, orange and yellow are warm colors. They fall in the red area of the color spectrum. Warm colors can evoke a variety of emotions, ranging from comfort and warmth to anger and hatred.

The coolest colors are blue, purple and green. These colors are at the blue end on the color wheel. These colors are often thought to be calming but they can also invoke melancholy and indifference.

What one person feels about a color or when they see it might be different from what another person feels. Some people don’t invest in psychology for this reason. But the psychology isn’t new. The psychology has been around for quite some time.

The History of Color and Healing

Many prehistoric societies used chromotherapy or the use colors to heal. These included the Egyptians and Chinese. colorotherapy is also known as light treatment or colorology. Colorology is still used as an alternative or complementary therapy.

This procedure is:

  • Red is used to energize and stimulate the mind and body, and promote blood circulation.
  • The yellow color is believed to detoxify and energize the body.
  • Orange can be used to increase energy and treat the lungs.
  • Blue is believed to calm down diseases and relieve pain.
  • According to some, shades of indigo can help skin problems.

How else does color influence us?

Colors can affect our mood, but what about other aspects of our lives? You can make your own decision by considering these tips for surrounding you with colors.

Colors can influence what we remember. The color red can evoke negative memories or words you may have heard. Green, on the other hand, will make you think of positive events and times.
