In a randomized trial, elderly people with early stage dementia who took vitamin B12 supplements in order to lower their blood homocysteine experienced a decrease in cognitive and clinical decline. Low B12 levels are also a factor for poor memory, even if they are in the normal range. More research is needed before scientists can be certain of the effects of B12 supplements on dementia and memory losses.
