Keep Healthy during Flu Season

Every winter the influenza “season” comes. The perfect storm of cold weather, holiday parties, and weakened immunity systems makes it easier to catch the flu than ever. Everyone can do certain things to avoid getting the flu this holiday season.

Getting the Flu
The term “flu” is used to refer to a grouping of viruses that fall under the influenza umbrella. There are many different flu strains. Droplets are spread by infected people when they cough or sneeze. The flu can be spread by direct contact with infected mouth saliva.

It really depends on each individual. It is not fun to catch the flu. Here’s how you can avoid it.

Tips for preventing the Flu
You are in control of your health. Take preventative measures to avoid the flu.

You can reduce your risk of getting the flu by:

  • Regularly wash your hands using a high-quality soap. Always wash your hands after you have been in close contact with surfaces touched by others.
  • When coughing or sneezing, cover your nose and mouth. If you’re feeling unwell, and have to go out, wear a mask.
  • Do not travel if you don’t have to. Traveling is one of the most common ways for people to catch illnesses. All forms of transportation require that people be seated close together. Avoid it as much as possible.
  • Do not touch your nose, eyes or hands. This is especially true if your hands haven’t been cleaned recently. The germs on your hand can cause sickness by infecting mucous membranes such as inside your nose.
  • Disinfect surfaces around your home, such as sink handles, doorknobs and countertops. This will stop the spread of germs on the surface.
  • Get your influenza vaccine, especially if you are under 12 years of age, have a weak immune system or are pregnant. Everyone can benefit from the flu vaccine, but those with risk factors are encouraged to do so.

Conclusion
Every year, flu season is upon us. If you’re trying to be as healthy as possible, there is no need to worry. You can get the flu shot if you are at high risk. It has been proven to be effective and safe.
